Last Post

well for 2012 that is.....

The corn is up and doing well.  The potatoes are turning yellow - though 1 is staring to have some new growth so who knows what that means.  My upside down tomato looks like it is dying.  I think it needs to be watered more often.  the 2 tomaotes out the front are doing ok.  Not as big as I thought they would get but they have fruit.

I just have to make the time to set up a watereing system for the front beds so that when we are away the eldest can just come home from work, turn on the timer and forget about them.  I made her water them last night - not sure she did a good job, but at least she did it.

Tommorrow I have to do said watering system, make rumballs (minus the rum), make pasta salad, make greek almond crescents and get some flowers for Dad.  Should be able to do that, so long as I don't get on here and start looking at things like this......

Just ranting

According to new age philosophy if I have something that is bugging me I need to write it down and burn it.  It works too - I have done that in the past.  It is really good when you feel you cannot tell the person involved (that's if someone is the cause of the bugginess as opposed to something).

So - in line with burning it (sending to the ether so to speak) I am going to write it all down here.

And you get to read it - sorry about that - you can just scroll down if you like.

How long will it take for a child to grow up?  I have a 24yo that seems to think that her bathroom is not her responsiblity to keep clean, that it's ok to have her bedroom look like a bomb has hit it.  I mean really.  Who can live in a place where the only floor space is a narrow path to the bed?  She has to step over things to get to the wardrobe.  Not that she really uses the wardrobe anymore.  Most if not all of her clothing is just chucked on the floor.  Last time I cleaned up in there I got 6 loads of washing off the floor and I forget how many small bags of rubbish (chocolate wrappers, empty drink bottles, biscuit packets etc).  There were bugs in the carpet!!  And she wonders why she gets migraines.  There is no room for clean energy to move around in that room; I have no idea the last time the floor was vacuumed.  She has a tendency to just buy new clothes all the time.  Sure she works in clothing retail and they have to wear current stock, but it seems jut about every 2nd day she comes home with more new stuff.  When I cleaned up I found 5-6 new things, still with tags on still in the bags she brought them home in.  oh and she winges that I have been in her room when I do clean it for her...  Go figure!

And the bathroom.....  there is her stuff all over the bench.  She shares with her younger sister and the bathroom is really only a ensuite bathroom - quite small and no bath.  The last time I was in there, which was only last week, the sink was BROWN and covered in bits of hair etc.  There was makeup and hair products all over the available space.  When I told her to clean it up I got this grunt/groan that she does when told to do soemething that she doesn't want to do.  I wouldn't want to brush my teeth in a BROWN sink - would you?  It's disgusting.  Their toilet often keeps running due to the dust/dirt on the top of the cistern, their shower is a mould beasts favourite house.  The floor is usually a light tan colour too - it should be white.  They both have a tendency to use fake tan spray in there - but not in the shower cubicle where the overspray is contained and they can hose it off the walls.  No they use it in the rest of the small room and it gets all over the floor...

Sometimes i think I really should be doing that - cleaning the bathroom and their rooms - for them.  After all I am the mother.  But then I think, f@#k it all, they're old enough to take responsibilty for the areas they use.  It's not like I am in that part of the house everyday anyway.  I rarely go there (it's upstairs).  And if I do it's usually go fetch the dishes and glasses they have taken upstairs as we have run out, or it's to fix the toilet from running.   UUGGGGHHHHH...

I learned yesterday that the eldest is apparently going to move in with a friend in a few months time when the friends house is finally finished.  The friend doesn't want to live all by herself and her partner works interstate.  I pity the friend...

Low Fat Cooking

Well I think I may have found the right-for-me low fat cookbooks. 

They have recipes that when you read the name you know exactly what you are getting - tonight is Chicken with Cashews for dinner.  It is chicken, cashews and vegetables - very much like what I would have made in the past but without all the fat.  These books are also suitable for diabetics - that's hubby.

They also have inspiring testimonials from people who have used them to lose weight; which is something I desperately need to do.

I was out shopping at a local small plaza the other day - it might be 500-600m from 1 end to the other.  As luck would have it, I had to shop at both ends.  Walking firstly down to the other end was a effort - getting back a major effort.  I wanted to have a sit down before I went back!!

I am unfit cardio-wise, overweight by heaps (I could probabaly halve myself) and have a sore knee to boot.  The knee is getting worse the older I get and I know my weight doesn't help it.


SOOOO......
Yesterday I only had half of what I would normally have for breakfast and much less than usual for lunch.  Today I have done the same.

It's a week to Christmas and I have all dinners already planned.  Here's hoping they taste alright.

Since we will be going away for 2-3 weeks over Xmas/New Year and I don;t cook whilst away I can probably write that time off in the low fat stakes.  The trick will be to not go 'what the hell' and just eat whatever.

Let's see how this goes......

I'm supposed to be

putting costumes away back into the storage shed for the cali club, but I really can't be bothered.  It's hot yesterday, today and tommorrow with no change in store until Monday. 

The costume shed is a MESS.  We have taken out lots of costumes to sell next year and they are all just plonked in garbage bags near the front of the shed so getting to the tubs to put things away is a pain.  You have to move all the for sale stuff first, find the tub you need (which is usually on the bottom of the stack) and then put the for sale stuff back.

I've already done 1 trip and I've got at leats 2 more trips to go beofre it is all away.

Maybe I can hide it at home here so hubby won't notice........

17 days till Christmas

and I haven't even thought of what to get for family gifts....

I better hurry up. 

Each year since the kids were born I have given them their own Christmas decoration.  That way when they finally leave home they will have a collection for their own tree that is full of memories.  I also do the same for my neice and nephew.

Last year I gave them all hand made ones.  This year my guys got hallmark ones and I think the neice/nephew will get another handmade felt one.  I just found a great small wreath ornament that won't break the bank or take too long to put together.

Now for gifts.....

I have 1 for youngest, 2 for eldest, none for middle (but he's overseas so he may just have to deal with cash), and ZERO for anyone else.  There's only 6 of the anyone else, but that still 6 people to organise a gift for and absolutley no idea on what to give them.  Plus there's the whole "what do you give someone with aged demntia who doesn't know you anymore" saga.  I did think of knitting a dog like the demented person (is that rude?) had as a young man, but not sure I will have enough time to do it.

I was going to post some photos of the vege patch this morning - but I can't find my camera to even take the pics let alone post them.  GRRRR....

Most annoying....

So you will just have to visualise the following......

The upside down tomato is doing really well.  It has flowers and what looks to me like strong stalks.  I got a liquid feed the other day.

Out the front the corn seeds I planted have sprouted!!  I counted 10 out of the 18 that I planted.  Supposed to have a 99% germination rate - so maybe birds got the other seeds.  I will wait the weekend and put in some more if the others come up.

I also put in 4 pumpkins and 2 have germinated.  They are only tiny bits of green poking up out of the mulch at this point, but they're growing.  I now just need to keep the water up to them and give them a feed in a few weeks time.

The 2 tomato plants out the front have fruit!!  4 to be exact.  They are the smallest bushes but fruit has set.

I have been eating the odd strawberry too when I go out to water.  tiny little things but strawberries none the less.  Must remember to feed them too.

The rhubarb is going strong - well 1 plant is.  The other one is a bit spindly looking.  There is almost enough to harvest on the good plant!!

I should probably feed the spuds too.  The heat of 2 days ago didn't knock things around too much.  I thought everything would curl up and wilt, if not die.

Still haven't gotten around to transplanting the other tomato, capsicum, broccoli and lettuces yet.  Poor things........


When hubby painted the front of the house (downstairs outside) he removed what xmas lights I had up from last year and just plonked them in a pile in the garden.  Well last night I put one string over a Diosma and another in the Hibiscus bush.  They are both solar sets, so if I can get them both to work properly our front door area will look quite festive.

Social Media

Well I finally bit the bullet, so to speak, and started a facebook page.  Hopefully I will be able to figure it all out and not appear to be a complete idiot.

There are 2 pages that I am interested in - both to do with the girls cali.  So hopefully I have done the right things to get on their friend list.

I appear to have sent numerous friend requests going by the number of notifications I am getting.  Inbox is getting rather full!!

Vege Patch Update

Vege patch?? What vege patch??

Honestly all I have managed to get done is put in those 3 tomatoes and the potatoes - and that was a while ago.  The hanging tomato is doing well after it's accident (remember it fell to the ground) and the potatoes have grown and are now starting to wilt (could be due to lack of water).

I was going to put corn into boxes out along the back fence, but I have changed my mind.  They are now going into one of the unused beds out the front.  TODAY!!  I will also put in some pumpkin and zucchini seeds and some sunflower seeds.  The sunflowers I will put into the proper garden beds amongst what is already there. 

And the poor lettuce seedlings need to go into the trough I bought for them.

Last year I was was really keen on growing some of my own veges, but this year I really can't find the inspiration to do it.  I don't know if it is a case of too much happening here that takes over my attention or gardening is just not my thing.  I get no help from anyone - not even hubby.  I am lucky if he actually cuts the grass more than twice a year.  I know he hates mowing grass but he is reluctant to rip it all up and put in plants and mulch.  That does not make any sense to me.

The whole front yard needs re mulched.  I think it has been 5 years since it was last done so you can imagine the state it is in.  Weeds grow like wildfire and removing them is difficult.

I've got 5 roses out the back that did not get pruned during winter.  They are all supposed to be bush roses, but 2 are now so tall you could call them tree roses.  Another one is buried under a daisy type of shrub - that one never did grow very well.  It is actually the eldest's rose - I think it suits her to a 'T'.  No that she's short or anything, just that she doesn't do much.  Just like the rose.....

I found 1 single strawberry down the side 2 days ago and ate it - sour thing it was.  Not sure if it the variety or just not getting the attention/food/water it needs to be sweet.  The rhubarb is doing ok.  Stalks are quite thin and it looks like whatever was eating the leaves has stopped - maybe it died, after all they are poisonous.  The fern that is growing out the side of the garden bed is doing quite well.

I think I need to feed everything - maybe this week........

Concert Programs and life after the concert

Busy right now printing Concert Programs for the eldest cali club. 

The darn printer keeps jamming on the paper though.  And it is starting to annoy me!!

Not the sort of thing I can say - blow it, I'm not doing these anymore.  They have to be done today so I can hand them over to the lady who will bind them for us.  That is once I collect the colour pages from the printer and collate the whole lot together - then she can bind them.

So it looks like I have to sit and baby sit the printer until all 880 pages are done....

Life after the Concert - looking forward to that.

I have a batch of laundry bags to make for Aussie Hero Quilts as well as some quilts to put together for them.  I may have to make up tops only and send them off to their coordinator for her get quilted.  There are just too many in my head wanting made up!

Plus there is the vege garden that desperately needs attention.  I only have tomatoes in at the moment!  So much for putting in zucchini, pumpkins and corn.  Plus the seeds I put in really need to be potted on and fertilised so they can grow up big and strong.  The poor lettuces have not done much at all.

I think I may put sunflowers in amongst the weeds, um, flowers out the front.

EEWWWW !!!!

Just opened up the dishwasher to get out a clean mug for my mid morning cup of tea.

EEWWWWWWWWW......

The smell!!!!

It was atrocious.

Checked the filter, and yep, full of yucky mucky smelly crap.

And I thought it was the sink that was smelly.  I even treated it a few days ago to try to get rid of the smell.

So dishwasher is now going thru it's paces again - dishes and all.  Hopefully that will do the trick.  If not, then I'll have to put some bicarb thru it too.

Tomatoes and Potatoes

here we come.....

Well hopefully anyway.  My experiment to grow a tomato bush upside down came to ground this morning - literally.

Whilst putting washing on the line the whole pot (if you can call it that) fell to the ground with a thud.  Thank goodness I was there to quickly rescue the poor thing and put it back up.  I did loose part of the plant - the middle shoot!! 

I gave it a drink with some seaweed extract in it, so hopefully it will recover.

I also planted out the other 2 seedlings I purchased at the same time as the upside down one in the front yard beds.  Currently they are in potting mix in boxes.  You can see one of them in this pic.

The bed will get the straw and compost/maure treatment too.  Tommorrw seems like a good day to do that.

The poppies are fom last year - I am surprised they did not die off over winter.

These are my potatoes.  So far I have topped up the bags 3 times and I will do another lot soon.  The empty bag is not really empty - it just has the store bought potatoes that have not done anything yet.  Maybe they never will......

Vege Patch 2012

Today I finally got around to mostly sorting out the front yard vege patch after winter.  The grass around them was clipped down and then put into the beds.  I think this will be ok and will provide some green manure.  After all it all breaks down in the compost bin doesn't it? 

I have 2 beds nearly ready for some seeds to go in.  They still need another layer of compost and straw and then they'll ready.  The other 2 beds have yet to be redone - they both have flowering poppies that were planted last year growing strongly.

I will put in tomatoes, pumpkins from some seeds I saved from bought one, zucchini again and broccoli.  Maybe some capsicum too - if the seeds germinate.  I received the tomato seedlings the other day so they need to be planted out soon too.  I want to try doing one upside down and still need to find a place to hang it.  Maybe on the clothesline in the centre.

I also got my corn seeds.  These I will plant out at the end of the month into filled cardboard boxes.  Since they take only 12 weeks from planting to harvest this should not a problem, at least that's what I hope.  I think I will put these out the back along the fence - hopefully the dogs won't dig into  them.

My planted out potatoes seem to be doing their thing.  The seed spuds are anyway.  The couple I kept from the supermarket have yet to rear their heads above the dirt.

Wardrobe Organising

I have this on my mind for a while now.  Actually it pops up nearly everytime we go away.  I only take around 5 to 6 days worth of clothing with me and recycle them again and again.  (I do wash them in case you are wondering.)

So I have bit the bullet and opened those wardrobe doors and had a good hard look at what is in there.  It was getting to the point where not much more would fit in!

I found a list of clothing that I feel is an acceptable amount, given how I wear my clothes and often I wash them.  The list is this:

3 pair of long pants - jeans, dressy, tracksuit, etc

2 pair of long leggings

3 pair of shorts

2 skirts

3 singlet tops

4 long sleeve print tops

4 short sleeve print tops

2 long sleeve white shirts

2 long sleeve t-shirts

2 jumpers/sweaters

2 fitted cardigans

2 dresses

2 cropped jackets - these to suit my hour glass figure

1 trench coat

So after filling 1 and half large garbage bags this is what I am left with.  I can now move things around in the wardrobe and not have to use too many muscles!

6 pairs of long pants - 2 jeans, 2 black dressy, 2 trackys

6 pairs of leggins - 1 long, 5 mid length

3 pair of shorts

3 skirts - 2 black, 1 brown

6 singlet tops - these will be culled

10 long sleeve print tops

11 short sleeve tops

4 knit tops - 1 long sleeve, 2 short sleeve, 1 sleeveless

0 long sleeve white shirts

1 long sleeve white t-shirt

4 jumpers/sweaters - only 1 is what you might call thick; we don't have the weather for those here

1 loose cardigan

5 day dresses - 4 without sleeves

3 maxi dresses

2 evening dresses

0 cropped jackets

0 trench coat

1 overcoat

Not quite the same as the first list and I do believe some of the remaining items will end up going too, but I think it is a pretty good start.  Not sure if I will add in the white shirts or the cropped jackets, but I do like the idea of the trench coat.  I may have to get sewing again.

If only I could go thru hubby's clothes like this!

Vege Garden Update

Well the seeds I put in for Broccoli and Lettuce are really doing well.  They are both getting tall (should they do this?) but have yet to get their first set of real leaves.  I am still waiting on the arrival of my tomato seedlings.

I really need to weed out the front yard beds - but I can't be bothered!!  This is not a good way to be for someone who is trying to be a tiny bit self sufficient.  I keep coming up with excuses - too cold/wet/windy - BUT I really need to get to it SOON.  Otherwise I will have seedlings and no where to put them.

The Potatoes are snug in their bags and showing no sign of growing up just yet.

On another note - Hubby is home for the next 2 weeks.  The company he works for has no work for a lot of their staff.  He works on constructions sites - the last site he was on had 25 guys sacked!!  Some were with the company for over 20 years.  Things will be a bit tight here for a while me thinks.

Carrots

Just pulled up the last of the carrots that were planted AAAGES ago.  Every single one of them is puny beyond belief.  There is 1 or 2 that may be fit for people to eat - I'm thinking dog food for the rest.

Watered the potatoes - locked my self out of the house and had to go get the spare key - thank goodness the last person to use it had put it back.  No sign of spuds growing much yet.

Checked the other seeds in their mini hot house.  The lettuce is coming up and so is the broccoli (they're towards the back).

Bought a long trough to transplant the lettuce into once it gets big enough.  Need some more potting mix to do this.  Still waiting on the tomato seedlings to arrive.


Yesterday being Sunday was Joyday.  So I took the day to start making a new dress to wear to a weeding we are going to in 3 weeks.  The fabric I have is a mid-grey with cream spots satin.  The dress pattern  was a bit small, but I figured with my sewing skills I could up-size it to fit.  Cut it all out adding in extra fabric where I thought I needed it.  Sewed up the bodice - includes a wrap-shawly collar.  Thought I had better see if this will fit.  So chucked it on and got eldest to see if it would do up in the back.  Noooo, it won't!  Boo Hoo.  So back to the fabric store for more fabric and the larger pattern...  This is what I get for not buying the correct size pattern in the first place.

I have visions in my head of this being a really nice dress. 

Plantings

Yesterday I bought some straw, manure and seed raising mix for this seasons vege patch.  Today I potted up, in an egg carton mind you, some seeds for Tomatoes, Capsicum, Broccoli and Lettuce.  The carton is sitting in my mini greenhouse with the lid on.  There's not much to show, so no pics.

I have also bagged up my potatoes.  5 bags with 2 potatoes each, 8 are the Nicola variety and the other 2 are Cream spuds.  These 2 are from the supermarket, so I will see what happens with them.  The others are certified seed spuds. 

Interesting about potatoes - they say you HAVE to use certified seed spuds in order to grow disease free produce.  The company I bought them from is heavy into Heirloom seeds - those that are free polinated without any genetic mods, etc.  You'd think spuds would be the same deal.  Surely in this day and age the spuds you buy at the supermarket would be disease free?  Hhhmmm   Now to put them in a sunny spot in the front yard.

I will also be re-doing the 4 vege beds out the front for pumpkins, zucchini, the broccoli, tomato and capsicum seedlings.  I also have another $4 upside down container for tomatoes.  This I will be using for Tigrella variety....  Just bought 3 seedlings - they should arrive late this week or early next week.  I also bought some corn seeds - will try those up against the fence in the backyard - hopefully the dogs will leave them alone.....

MMMM Caake...

Found a new recipe the other day and so far have made it three times in the past 2 weeks.  It's a whole orange cake.

Very rich, not too orangey with a crsip outside.  Would be really nice iced - if I could be bothered and could keep the vultures, um family, away from it long enough.

The recipe came from a book I purchased after seeing there were 28 people waiting to get their hands on it at my local library.  The books called Down to Earth and was written by a Queensland lady called Rhonda Hertzel.  You can read her blog here - probably find the recipe too.  She talks about all sorts of things relating to trying to live a simpler life.

So back the cake.  The first one I made was with 2 mandarins that were in desperate need of being eaten.  Popped them in the food processor and set it going, and going, and going.  My food processor does not have a chop blade, only a mix blade so it took some time for the mandies to be in small enough bits.  Added the eggs, butter, sugar and flour and set processor to mix again.  Turn the mix out into a lined and greased loaf tin, cooked for 35 minutes.  Deliciously mandarin taste.

Then next one was a pineapple one - used some left over crushed pineapples.  Also nice with a slight pinapple flavour.

This lastest one, the orange one, has butter that I actually measured - I didn't measure with the other two - not margarine which I used for the other 2.  I also used the blender to break down the orange not the food processor.  I think is too buttery, so next time I will cut down on the amount used.

Rhubarb and Tomatoes

I don't know about any of you, but I love rhubarb.  It's that tangy sweetness that gets me every time.  Problem is, I now don't get to eat it very often.  I have bought some from my local supermarket on the odd occasion, but the rest of the house doesn't like it (more for me then). 

When I was still unmarried and living at home Dad had quite an extensive vege and fruit patch in the back yard.  We had apple, apricot, nectarine, peach, quince, loquat, pear trees as well as a multi grafted plum tree.  That tree used to get so much fruit on it Dad would have to prop up the branches so they didn't break off under the weight of the fruit.  So stewed fruit and home made jam was always available.  There was even a couple of rhubarb crowns.  Dad also grew tomatoes, lettuce, silver beet.  One year he grew pumpkin - we had so many in storage they covered the bench in the garage!

In my attempt to grow some of my own produce today I purchased 2 rhubarb crowns from my local hardware/garden store.  Yesterday the rhubarb seeds I bought turned up too.  So in a couple of days the crowns will go in and I will pot up the seeds into some seedling mix to get them started.

This may seems like a lot of rhubarb to planting - and you may be right - but did I mention I love the stuff??  And who knows what is going to survive and how much of it is going to die - specially over summer when we go on holidays.  Note to self - must remember to set up automatic watering system whist we are away.  One that the child staying home doesn't have to worry about.

I also got myself a plastic bucket that I am going to have a go at growing a tomato bush in upside down.  This sounds crazy, but I have seen it done with success.

The variety I will use is Tommy Toe - a 3cm variety of fruit.  Grew this last year with some success.

I have also thought of how to grow veges down the side of the house.  This area gets lots of sun all year and has a raised garden bed - actually the top of the bed is level with next door's ground level (we had to dig our house into our block of land a bit).  The bed is narrow - around 40cm wide - and the soil is terrible.  Compacted and little or no organic matter.  Last year I added some straw as a mulch and tried to grow melons in it.  Birds dug up all the straw and ate the seeds.  There is no way I can raise the height of the bed wall myself - I'm not that capable and the back side is wood fence (my neighbour would not be impressed to learn I have compost and dirt up against it).

So I think the best way to utilise this area is with a plastic rectangular tubs that have had the bottoms of them removed and fill them in a no-dig manner.  Kind of like gardening in pots, but a slightly larger scale.  Now to find some cheap tubs.  (I think I know where I can get 1 or 2 - local dance club has some with no lids that I may be able to steal, um have).

If I can also get 2 more of the bed frames I started with last year I will be happy.  That will give me 6 mini plots in our front yard and will not interfere with car parking.  Need to start them back up again.  One is full of grass, the others have very little grass/weeds in them.  The poppies have survived over winter and look nice and healthy.  I pulled out the broccoli the other day.  That will get chopped up, pushed down and covered over with straw and manure to rot down over summer.  All food for the next crops.  I also need to think of something to put around the beds to get rid of the grass.  Loath to spray with glyphosate - it might leach into the vege beds and then we could be eating it!

On another garden type note - I would love to able to organise a neighbourhood vege co-op.  One where neighbours grow veges and fruit in their own yards and then swap/trade with others in the
co-op as the produce matures.  Can see the benefits - getting to know the neighbours, not having to grow as much variety but still getting it, etc.  Can also see the down side - people not co-operating properly, someone not getting any produce but yet giving out their growings, etc.  Much to ponder......

Look at the dirt

on the trailer....

This is after 2 days of driving in dusty conditions on dirt roads.  It was fine dust and got into everything; thru the zips on the tent cover, inside the trailer....

Everything was covered in it....

Once we reached civilisation again we hosed the trailer down and found that the paint had actaully been dust blates off the metal!!  The silver box was even dented across the front from all the stones we flicked up.

Hubby has had to repaint the whole trailer - inside and out and underneath. 

But getting to see places like this makes it all worthwhile.

Back from our trip up North

and I would rather be still on the road staying in places likes this.....

We certainly had more than our fair share of car problems - blown head gasket, auxillery battery had to be replaced, smashed a rear window, replaced a fan pump, got dust in the brake drums/cylinders, and have a cracked front windscreen. 

Saw some lovely spots for fishing.....

Met some brilliant birds.....

Saw some gorgeous coast......

We did not quite make it to the very top but are happy with how far we did get, all things considered.

Met this guy at a roadhouse camping spot....

He had 2 brothers.  Never having been this close to a peacock before I was surprised by how large a bird they are.  Very inquisitive too.  There was also an Emu at the same place.  It would not move whilst we set up camp and came to inspect everything too.

Happy Holidays....

Well not so happy actually.  We have been stuck in Bundaberg Qld for the past 2 weeks with car troubles.  Hopefully we will be outta here on Tuesday.....

We have had more than our fair share of rain; we broke 2 hand pumps for water on our camper and the tent leaked.

Yep - watching a bucket fill up with rain water!!  Rivetting stuff....

2 Days to go ....

Until hubby and I head off for a 3 month adventure.

Long Time No See, err Read

Wow, did not realise it had been this long between posts!

My apologies to all who read this.

There's no excuses on offer - just been a bad blogger......

In 11 days Hubby and I head off on our Cape York Adventure.  We are towing the camper trailer behind us and driving all the way up to the very most northern point of Australia - not is a direct and straight line mind you.  We will be taking plenty of stops along the way doing what all tourists do - having a good look around the place.

Spending a day on the Gold Coast, a week on Fraser Island, a day at Bundaberg and then who knows what.

Tha plan, if there is one, is to find a spot that looks nice and set up camp for a day or two and then move on to the next spot.  I will have to take lots of piccys each day - I intend on taking a photo of camp each time we stop in an attempt to keep track of where we have been.  May even get to upload some whilst away - depending on wifi connectivity.

So if you don't hear from me between now and Septmeber - this is why.

Tax Time

I really hate the time of year when hubby decides it's time we do our tax return.  I don't put in a tax return as I don't earn any money.  So why do I have do all the work for his return??  He's had 8 months to get his act into gear to do it.  Now when it's crunch time, he gets all upppity when I can't find the info he needs....

Driving and Donating

My baby girl is now licensed to kill - with a motor vehicle that is.  This morning she passed her driving test.  It didn't take her long to get out on her own either - like only 2 hours after the test.  She was so pleased she passsed.  Congrats to her.  No more playing taxi with her for me.

I donated 2 large bags of usable stuff to a local Kinder today.  A lot of knitting yarn (half a bag full!!), fabrics, pipe cleaners, ribbons and braids, all sorts of things.  There was even a bag of teddy bear dress ups.  Hopefully they will put it all to good use.

Now to finish cleaning up the craft room.  I have lots on the shelves - they're full - and still lots of bags beside the shelves.  Not sure if I want to only keep things like fabrics that are earmarked for a project or whether to just go thru all the fabrics and make 2 piles - 1 of those I like and 1 of those I don't like.  I have a friend who, as part of a quilting group, make quilts for a local hospital.  That's where the discards will be going.  I'm quite sure that even if I only kept the projects that were already together - those that are ready to be started - I would not get thru them all before I drop off the planet.  Mind you I have no intentions of doing that any time soon - I just have collected (and boy is that agood word for it) lots of kits.

Challenge

Today I re-read parts of my $21 Challenge book.  I will again do this challenge.  Last time I did it, I only spent $6.80 on feeding the family for the week.  Yes you read right - $6.80.  I went through my pantry, fridge and freezer and found that I had enough food stashed away to feed us (5 adults) for the week and only had to purchase some fresh veges. 

I feel it's time to do it again. 

Not because I have a pantry full of food that I want to get rid of, but that it is a worthwhile exercise.  One that I hope to do on a regular basis.  The best part is having meals planned 1 week in advance - no getting to 5pm and wondering what on earth I will cook for dinner.  I put the menu planner on the fridge so the others in the house know what's for dinner (if they care to look that is).

There's not a lot in the fridge and I have yet to check out the pantry or freezer, but there will be enough I am sure of it.  It was quite weird not going to the supermarket 2 or 3 times during the week last time I did this.  I felt quite proud of myself in keeping away.  I should take note of how much I save when doing this and write it down somewhere so that at the end of the year I can see how much I actually saved ov a long period of time.  It's all well and good to say 'I saved $100 on groceries this week', but to put into perspective on an annual basis would be enlightening.

I came across this in a comment on Becky Higgin's blog.

It is quite profound, that quote, when you sit and think about it.  Most people would not even think of their life in that way.  Days spent in meaningless activity (searching the web for scrapbooking page maps - how I came across that quote) really are a waste of a day.  Now you may consider page maps to be something you need and are important - that's ok.  Some may think I spent the morning doing nothing - that's fine too.

I urge you all to think hard on this quote and what it means to you.  I intend printing it out and sticking it on the back of the toilet door - a place to be often reminded of it.

Veges

Wow,  this looks like being a vege blog - not my intention I assure you.

Whilst we were on hols, my son picked 2 zucchini and there were 3 more waiting for us when we got home.  I have given 2 away to a lady who walks her dog past our place every day - saw her today and she said they were nice.  Last night I used one of them to make a zucchini slice.  We had a salad with it using some of our mini tomatoes.  One pot with carrots had to be pulled out - they did not get enough water and so died.  The peas also have been neglected re the watering - oh well.

Our hols - away for 19 days at our caravan in the little town of Bright.  I managed to get a fair bit of cross stitch done and I finished 2 ankle socks.  Did not take many photos.  Only went  swimming twice - days just not hot enough.  Actually for nearly 1 week we wore autumn clothing - long sleeves/pants!!  In january!!

Check 'em out

Check out these zucchini!!

The pale ones weigh a fair bit.  The small bulby bits on the far end are where the seeds are.  They measure around 40cm long!! Apparently they are good to eat up to 1m long.

Zucchini, etc

Just picked 2 more home grown zucchini - the one I picked last week was quite nice without the seeds.  Lightly steamed, yummmmm

1 of those just picked is nearly a complete circle!  Looks like there will be 3 more in a few days, they just need to colour up.

On and I counted the pumpkins too - 12 in all that I can see.  So far they are 4-6" long and getting their ribbed skin. 

Of my wartermelon and rockmelons I have 3 of 1 variety and 1 of the other - not sure which is which so it will be surprising when they get big enough to flower and then fruit.  Lost 2 along the sideway fence - darn birds digging for worms dug these ones out. Hopefully our Son will keep them watered well whilst we are away.

Zucchini

I picked 1 zucchini on Friday - slugs/snails were eating the bulbish area where the seeds would be - the zucchinis are TROMBONCINI variety.  We ate it with dinner on Saturday night - quite nice lightly steamed, no seeds to worry about.

We've had a bit of rain over the past couple of days, so I have not had to water.  The poppies are doing well and flowering lots.

Veges

Hubby whipper snipped around the garden beds Sunday - I lost part of a zucchini plant.  He asked our son who was helping him "can I glue this back on?" . 

In having a good look at the veges I have around 5 pumpkins, but they are long not round; lots of zucchini - most are curling around themselves; my capsicums look like tomatoes; the broccoli is a failure (or maybe that's just me not having a green thumb).  I have planted yet more peas - this is what I picked from what I had in to start with.

That's 3 plants worth of peas - they tasted nice and sweet, pod and all.  Maybe they don't like being in pots.

We have decided to get rid of our front lawn totally and turn it into a car park.  Our youngest daughter has her own car now and the driveway is not big enough for 3 cars - we need to put 1 on the lawn.  Putting down a stone/concrete mix will mean a lot of work, but be worth it in the end when the other 2 kids get cars (assuming they do that before leaving home).  We will have to redo some of the front garden bed to get the car onto the lawn easier.

Vege Garden

I have 2  more broccoli seedlings that I have put into the big beds.  I had to rip one of the original ones out - looked really sick.  The other orginal one is slowly getting eaten by something - I put down snail pellets.

I also planted watermelons and rockmelon seeds - some down the sideway and some out the front.  The bed down the sideway got weeded and sugar cane mulched.  Also put in another pea seed and more snail pellets around these.  Maybe I should invest in a snail trap - but then I would have to buy beer and no one here drinks the stuff.

Also put in MORE tomato seeds - if these don't germinate I am going to give up and buy 2 plants.  This goes against the grain as I don't really want to put profit into the hands of the large seed companies, but what do I do if I want to grow my own tomatoes?  Also put in some more capsicum and cucumber seeds.

All of the self germinated peas have been pulled out - they looked sick anyway.  A lot of the grass that was coming up in the big beds has also stopped doing that.  I think I have managed to pull the rest all out.

Found an old hose on a reel too.  Now I need some tap connectors for it - much better than a watering can.  I can give the whole bed a good soaking.  Which I think I need to do daily.  The potting mixes where there were seeds are bone dry - even though we had a lot of rain yesterday.

Now I just need to get hubby to whipper snip the grass around the beds down low so I can put a thick layer of mulch.  Oh and I need a vege garden / grass barrier too.  Bunnings here I come.

Vege update - yep another one

So it looks like I've lost all my cucumbers to something - probably slugs/snails though how they can crawl across pea straw is beyond me.

The extra pea seeds I put in are starting to grow.  As are some of the extra carrots.  The first lot of carrots are really slow in doing anything - maybe they need more vigilant watering and fertiliser.

The Everlasting Daisies are doing well too.  So are the self sown pea seeds.

This strawberry plant is now 3 years old - it has the tiniest of fruit on it already and could do with a good feed.

Now for some other flowers in my front yard.

And the Expert says......

That it is a common problem with pea straw and that they should be fine to let grow if I wish.  She said they are usually not as nice to eat as any others I would plant, but that she usually leaves them.

So I have decided to let those not coming up next to the seed I have planted be - for the time being.  Some I have pulled out if there were lots together.  Maybe they will have some nice flowers......

The peas I have planted are doing quite well - most anyway.  One got attacked by slugs - so it's out with the snail/slug trap for me.  I have planted 2 more seeds in the same pots to cover those that didn't germinate and the 1 lost to the slug.

The seeds I put into the peat pellets have all germinated except for the tomato ones.  In a few weeks when they get their true leaves they will go in the vege beds.  If the tomatoes don't come up, I may try direct sowing them in their pot.

Another Vege Garden Update

Just come inside from checking the vege garden beds.  Boy are those peas that I didn't plant doing well!  There must be 20 of them.  I will have to think hard on if I wish to keep them all and if I am going to put in some sort of climbing frame for them.  There are a couple that are quite near my cucumber and pumpkins.  I wonder if they will help each other grow or just create a mess.  Must ask the experts.

vege garden update

We've had a fair bit of rain lately - those seedlings I planted out have survived it all.  The seeds keep sprouting.

So far I have 3 pumpkins, 3 zucchini, 2 cucumbers and it looks like 2 tomatoes as well.  I think that's what they are - will have to wait a bit to see if I'm correct.

Today I put in extra pumpkin, zucchini and cucumbers - hopefully they will do well also.  I also put more tomato, capsicum and broccoli seed into jiffy pellets and some more carrot seed into the same pot as before and 3 other pots.

I have noticed that there is a lot of grass coming up in the new beds - did not even think about that!  I think it is from the straw - could be the lucerne on the bottom.  It even looks like I have quite a few peas coming up too - from the straw - it is pea straw after all.  I have left these to grow - hopefully they won't do the other plants any damage or be much competition.  The grass I am pulling out each time I check up on the beds.

I noticed the small strawberry plant has had 2 more leaves - yay.  And my poor dutch iris that is pot bound has a flower on it.  It must like the fact it has water!!

Some more of out gardens flowers - the white ones are convulvulus, the yellow are fressia's.

Vege Garden Update

Well I am feeling a bit happy this morning - my pumpkins, zucchini, cucumber, daisies and poppies have mostly germinated.  I expect within another week the rest of the seeds will have also germinated.  My carrot seeds look like they are finally doing something also.  And I have 1 healthy capsicum plant that I have moved out of the seed tray and into the garden bed.  The broccoli seedlings look a bit sick, but I have put them in the big bed too.  Shame the tomato seeds don't look like doing anything.  Maybe they take longer to start.

Now I just have to remember to get out each day and give them all a drink!

The rain we have had over the past 2 weeks has  moved the straw over the potting mix to create a nice bit of mulch - I like that.

gardening

Had another storm last night - lightening, thunder, the works.  Largest dog was running around the house like a luantic - he hates loud noises!  Lying in bed listening to the rain pelt down I wondered how my freshly planted seeds were going - would they get washed away; would the potting mix be pushed around and leave the seeds to air; would nothing happen?

Checked them this morning - it seems the rain has pushed the potting mix into the straw.  I haven't gone digging through it yet to see what has actually happened - a bit wet still - but that is on the agenda when the rain stops.

I think I have decided what to use as an edge around the new beds.  Hubby wanted me to use treated pine sleepers - cheap and will not rot away.  After some investigation that will NOT be happening - they are still treated with copper arsenate - no way am I having that stuff near my vege gardens.  So I have decided on a plastic bordering product that comes in 5m and 10m rolls.  I'll get the green one, I think, that is 20cm high, maybe 10m of it.  Not sure how it stays upright - I presume some sort of spike goes into it at the back.  If that's the case I will have to watch where I put the spikes - we have under ground sprinklers in the front grass.  I'm sure hubby will not like me puncturing those lines.  What I don't use out the front I can use to make a taller garden bed out the back for the Sunflowers.  May even get a 5m roll for the garden bed down the side.......

Vege Garden Update

This morning, I was up relatively early, so I finished filling up the new vege garden beds out the front.  By midday they were all full, had to go get more manure and straw though.  I  now have handfuls of potting mix in little spots in each bed with Pumpkin, Zucchini, Cucumber, Everlasting Daisies and Poppies in the mix.

I even labelled 2 of the beds with nice ceramic plant labels - hopefully no will steal these.

vege garden update

Saturday night was really windy.  Things were blowing around all over the yard.  I thought I would lose my pea seeds that I had left outside, it was that windy.

Pea seeds were just where I left them when I checked the side way in the morning - phew!  The only 'damage' was my mini glasshouse was tipped over and on the ground and the plastic cover over the cat grass seeds had blown off.  So no realy damage to speak off.  A few sheets of paper from the one new bed that did not get the lucerne/manure/straw treatment had blown out too.

So I put the paper back in and covered them with the lucerne.  It was rather wet lucerne and had started to decay in parts - is this a good thing? - who knows.  I also fixed up the mini glasshouse (it's plastic btw), put the cat grass into it and put some seeds into the peat pellets that had fallen out of it; then watered the whole lot.  So now I have tomato seeds in 4 peat pellets, capsicum in another 4 and broccoli in the last 4.  And I put the glasshouse on the ground...

Yesterday Hubby was mowing the front lawn.  He commented to me that I had made it very hard for him to do that.  Like duhhh.  I told him, yes I know that and the plan is to put a barrier of some sort - wood, bricks,etc - across in front of the new beds for him to mow up to and then I was going to mulch around the beds.  He obviously thinks I did not think of the grass getting mowed!!  But I noticed, apart from  the smell of the wet lucerne, a lot of flies buzzing around the new beds.  I think I may have to set up a fly trap.

Vege Garden

Just spent the last 2 1/2 hours putting together 4 metal garden beds, and starting to set up a no-dig garden in each of them.  The beds went together quite easily - all I needed was a screwdriver; easy to find in this house.

I ran out of lucerne hay, manure and straw for the beds.  Will have to get 1 more lucerne bail, another 2 bags of manure and 2 more straw pallets.  Then I need to figure out what I am going to put around the beds to cover up the grass that is there - I have put these on my front lawn!  I may get a large pallet of straw and scatter that around thickly, though that may cause problems with other things growing from the straw seeds.

So when they are full with hay, etc. I am going to plant broccoli, capsicum, pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, maybe some poppies or native everlasting daisies just to make the beds 'look nice'.

Sunday's plan go pushed to Monday - sorted out 4 pots and planted some carrot seeds in one of them.  Pulled out most of the weeds down the sideway - I just left them on the garden bed to break down.  I still want to raise that bed up a bit for some more veges.

This morning before starting on the new garden beds, I put potting mix into 3 more pots.  These pots have rods and wheely things to make towers.  In 2 of these I put some sugar snap peas, 8 seeds in all.  So hopefull;y we will have some peas to eat over summer.  If they germinate well I will seriously think about putting in some more.  I also watered some jiffy peat pellets so I can start some toamato seeds for the other tower pot.

I'm off to have a shower - I smell like manure!

Garden

I just had a look down our north sideway - ugh, what a mess.  It has not been looked at over winter and boy does it show.

The weeds are HUGE, the plants cover the path nearly and there's lots of leaf litter under the olive tree (I think that's what it is).  Time to get my butt into gear.

Moved and weeded the poor strawberry plants.  I still have 3 of them, though 1 looks a bit sick.  Gave them all a good drink and moved them to the front of the house where they will get some sunshine.  It looks like I may have another one growing in an abandoned pot; the one I was going to use for carrots.  I found some more pots too up near the front gate that still have mix in them.

So the plan for Sunday is this......

• Get those pots and dig around in them to find any left over roots.  Remove said roots, add some manure, extra mix and water well then let sit for a week.  Then I will plant some carrot seeds.
• Put a few tomato seeds into the jiffy pots.  I might do 2 or 3 pots and see how they geminate.  I think if they go well I should probably do 2 or 3 every month - that should keep us in tomatoes.
• Pot up the Cat Grass for the moggies.

This is after I've done the ironing and come home from the competiton in the morning.

I should also rip out as much of the weeds in the pavers as possible.  One weed is a rather large thistly prickly thing - need gloves or a spade (or both) for that.  The leaf litter I want to keep - it will go in the vege garden bed I intend setting up.

Vegetable Garden

So the other day I went online to a gardening website and joined up.  This will give me 2 years of magazines - 12 in total - full of gardening advice and seeds/plants to purchase.  I also bought a collection of 9 different varieties of seeds to plant out.  There is broccoli, pumpkin, melons (don't know what sort) tomatoes, peas, lettuce, capsicum and onions.  Apparently using these 9 packets I can produce over 100kg of produce.

Now the next part is to figure out just where I am going to plant them.  I have been thinking about this for a couple of years now and I believe the best place is in the front yard!!  I know hubby will NOT like this at all, but if I do a small bed out there that should not look too messy.

I think I have a plan - 1 raised bed in the top end of the front lawn that is 1.2m x 1.2m,
                                            only 30cm high
                               - 1 raised bed out the back against the back fence that is 2m
                                             x 1m, needs to be 40cm high to keep dogs off it
                               - and a final one down the side against the house that is .5m
                                            x 3m, 40cm high

This last one could possibly be put on the existing garden bed, then it only needs to be 30cm high, but it won't be 3m long.

Each bed I want to do as a no-dig-garden - I think I will be raiding the supermarket for carboard boxes, and maybe the newsagent for old newspapers.

Men

I read a quote the other day that was attributed to William Morris.  It was "Do not have anything in your house that is not either useful or you deem to be beautiful." 

My immediate thought was - "Does this mean I can rid of the hubby??"

Hubby's Car

He has finally finished making up and installing drawers in the back of our Landcruiser.  I will admit they look quite good, all covered in grey felty carpety stuff.  He wants to add some dividers in the drawers to help with the rolling around of items within them.  They are quite large and take up the whole of the width/depth of the rear of the car and are about 30cm high.  Not much room for the dogs anymore.

His next projet will be to make a tipping up slider for out engel car fridge.  He also recently put a snorkel on the car too. 

The kids think he is crazy and can't believe I let him 'ruin' the car.  But next year we will be travelling up to Cape York and possibly over to Uluru also, so I can see the need for these modifications.

Comps

Last night started the competition season for my girls.  Youngest had her first ever Champ Reserve comp.  The team came away winning the overall aggregate - yay!!.  She is in the second team for 3 items and they got a third for clubs and were 2 points off a place for the other 2 items.  Go second team.

Looks like I'm up for another trophy this year.

Kitchen - Final

Well the door arrived and is on and it is all painted - looks really good.  Everyone that sees it is impressed. 

The only thing left to do is replace the front blinds.  I would like to paint them - cheapest option - but hubby is not so keen on that.  Granted the thingy in the track to slide them along is broken in one spot so you have to pull them back by hand, but how often do we do that.  Not very - maybe once or twice a year.  I think I may overule him on this one.

JOYday #4

Not sure what happened on #3... I know I did some ironing (no real JOY there) and some knitting in the evening. 

So, on to #4.

Today I painted some props - well the back of them really.  It is for calisthenics, so I know it goes against the principles of JOYday - but, hey, it involved paint and varnish - so that covers it I think.

9 flowers - really large ones - all now have the backs of them painted and varnished.  It has taken me nearly all day to do.  Oh and I also played on my DS.

This evening, I may do some more knitting..

JOYday #2

Yesterday was JOYday #2 - and it was another success.  I finished the pink towelling teddy that I cut out last week - dress and all.  I also put the frames on the dragon appliques.  All in all, a very successful day!

Joyday

Ok, so today was my first designated 'Joyday', and I think it was a success.  Even though I did think about study momentarily and calisthenics costumes for a bit whilst ironing, and I had do a basket of ironing for a client, I did manage to do other things purely for myself.

The first 'joyday' project was to complete a wall doll I have had in parts wanting to be a whole.  Now she is - all she needs is a book or a besom and my little lying/flying witch is complete.  This is her below.

The only comment I have about this doll, is that the pattern for the dress is about 3" too long, either that or her legs are too short....

I also cut out a pink towelling bear, ready for next week.  This bear is another of Lillie Mae's patterns...

Kitchen

Kitchen is now waiting to be painted and for the final door to arrive from the manufacturer, and for new blinds.  We had to send a few emails back and forth to the manufacturer as he sent 1 door not enough and tried to blame us.  It looks really good.  So far the dogs have not put any scratches in the door fronts.

husbands

found out yesterday that hubby has been talking to other women online....grrrr  sob sob
i sent him a text saying we need to talk, he never said anything about it when he got home from work.  so that night when we went to bed i asked him about it and he said he was going to ignore it.  when asked why, he replied that he has nothing to say.  i told him i think something is going on, so he told me to think what i want.
th other week when we bought a new mattress for the caravan, i jokingly told him to leave it in the car and tell the guys at work that i had chucked him out.  he said, in a serious tone, that they would believe it.  i got no response to my question of what has he been doing for me to chuck him out!

so, this is what i think (i think)..... he doesn't love or care about me anymore....

whether that is true or not, i have no idea as he won't talk to me about it.....

Naughty Knitting...

I have made, finished, ready to wear, a purple spider web bra and matching knickers.  The bra is from someone else's pattern (will post link if I can find it again), but the knickers are my own creation.  Will post a pic when I find my camera.

I have also completed the red scarf/cowl PLUS 2 others.

Knitting

Found some more yarn in 2 boxes the other day when cleaning up my craft room.  I know where the pattern and needles for the single sock are.

I will admit to being very naughty - bought some more yarn.  Some is for a pair of thigh high red lacey socks, some is for normal socks.

I have printed out all my 'naughty' patterns and put them in a folder.  Am currently making a spider web bra in purple; intend on making matching g-string too.

I have crocheted a pair of pasties and a matching g-string for a friend (she doesn't know she will be getting these), now I have to sew in some yarn ends and attach a tassel to 1 pastie.  I think I should send them with some hollywood tape too.  Hope she likes them (and her hubby does too)....

Car

Picked up the 'new' car yesterday.  A 2004 toyota corolla ascent sports model.  Must admit i feel a bit silly driving a car with a rear spoiler and low profile tyres on mag wheels.......

Previous owner must have been a smoker - car reeks a bit.  I wonder how long it will be before that smell goes away - if ever.

But she drives well and it's better than walking...

Cars

Who needs 'em???

Well, apparently I do.  Eldest child managed to damage my/our car last month.  Took it to the repairers to get fixed.  After lots of phone calls to them (darn insurance company) it seems my car is a repairable write off.  They won't fix it, but they will give me some money for it.

So now I have to buy another one.

Went car shopping yesterday.  Found one.  Only $2500 MORE than I wanted to spend.  Actually it's $12500 more than I wanted to spend - I just want my little white car back.....

Well I did it!  I finally finished the knitted pink triangle shawl.  It only took 12 months.  I used a lot of pink, grey and white yarns in different weights and textures - rather funky looking.  Some bits are really chunky and others are nice and smooth.  May put it on Etsy and see if it sells....

Today I started a red chunky cowl.  The yarn is a mohair blend with silver and gold metallic threads running through it.  Knits up really quickly (already used 1 ball and I have only worked on it for an hour). That may go on etsy too.....

Kangaroo

Last night I sewed together that knitted kangaroo I have been making.  I think I have found a rather large fault with the pattern.  The body back seems to be around 15 rows too short!!  So Mrs Roo is rather fat and dumpy and has a thick neck, nothing at all like the photo on the box.  I was so disgusted I put her back in the box, head first.  Not sure if I can be bothered with unpicking the seams and then froggng the yarn to remake her......

Knitting

Well, I have just spent the last 2 hours sorting and then properly storing some of my knitting yarns.  I now have a very large, very heavy bag full of assorted knitting yarn.  The bag used to hold a single bed sized doona/pillow combo.  I also catalogued them.

Found some projects I am in the middle of, including a pair of socks - well actually 1 complete sock and the rest of the yarn.  Don't know where the needles or pattern have gotten to.

I know I have another bag of unsorted/catalogued yarn stuffed into the wardrobe as well as another bag of similar size to what I used today full of yarn.  Somehow I think I like buying knitting yarn.

Goodness knows what I am going to do with all of it.  It's mostly single balls.  Various colours/weights/textures too.

Any suggestions?  Maybe I will use some of it on the naughty things.

Agapanthus

Taken today - a pic of my 27yo agapanthus.  Did try to dig it up once so I could split it up and replant the bits futher along the driveway.  It would not budge!  So it remains a lonely plant.

Knitting Socks etc....

Knitting has taken over.  I feel the need to knit things.  Last time I was like this I knitted socks for eldest child (she loved them), middle child (he didn't) and me (well they didn't get finished).

I have now found patterns for 'naughty' things - g string undies, pasties, corsets.  This could very interesting indeed.

And to top it all off, my LYS has been practically throwing out balls of yarn for 50 cents.  How am I supposed to resist such a temptation!  I have already filled a bag a doona came in with yarn - and I just relised I have another of these bags hanging around to put the newest purchases in.  Will have to dispose of the brand new doona though.

What have I been doing?

Today I have been browsing the web - starting off looking for free prim patterns (luv luv prim stuff), ended up finding a blog that showed how to cut up fabric and crochet bags.  The blogger even used old flanelette pj's to make a bath mat - now that could be a go.  Has me inspired to give it a go.

But since coming home from our annual summer vacation I have cleaned up my craft room a bit and found 4 kits to knit aussie animals.  So far I have made a wombat and a possum and am in the middle of a kangaroo - they are quite cute actually.  I may have enough of the yarns left over to make another one of them.

Set up my Esty store too - sold 1 owl to someone in Melbourne.  They offered, if that's the right word, to purchase more of the owls for their own online store once it gets up and running.  How exciting is that!
